Christina Aguilera has been invited to perform anthem by the end of the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers at Super Bowl XLV. Aguilera seemed to be too concerned in belting out high notes during the highly watched gig that she fumbled on the song’s lyrics in front of live audience. When she was supposed to sing the line "O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming," she instead repeated an earlier line, with a slight variation. She sang "What so proudly we watched at the twilight's last gleaming," which is the same line from earlier in the song but with the word `watched' instead of the word `hailed.'
Following the error, Aguilera issued a statement saying: "I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through." Here are the correct lyrics:
Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
